Are Lego Speed champions a good investment to double your money?

The short answer is a resounding yes. Lego speed champions are a great investment. They are highly popular sets with children and adults, very collectable cool little sets, that always do well on retirement. Popular and collectable is always great to have in a Lego investment, next is that they are discounted. As you will see often a 25% discount is enough to double your money. But I have been able to pick up many speed champions sets up at 50% off.

Why are Speed champions a good investment?

I think everything comes together with Lego Speed champions to make them a good investment. They are popular sets first and foremost, sets with great utility, they fit nicely on a shelf of any car enthusiast, with many adult fans of Lego, wanting to display their pride and joy of their favourite cars on the shelves.

But not only that kids love them as well, so they get bought to be built and played. So you have both sets of the market.

The speed champions are built around popular brands as well, Ford, Ferrari, Chevrolet, Lamborghini, Porsche and so many others. They are therefore unique to their models. You may see 5 different Lego fire engines around the same time. But there will only be one of a particular model of car in Lego format. So people will be prepared to pay extra if they want it.

Lego speed champions also has a good cycle, unlike potter and star wars really popular sets they don’t tend to stay on the market as long, normally between 18-30 months on the market.

What discount is good for these sets?

Many Lego speed champions sets i have been able to pick up at half price, mainly from clearance supermarket deals, and at this price it really is easy money. But much more comfortably you can get them for 25-30% off. Which is a good barometer for me with these sets. If I can pick them up for a third off that is a great price. The best thing is you can still be confident of a great return with a 25% discount as well.

Review of previous Lego speed champions sets

The proof is of course in the pudding. so having a look back at previous Lego speed champions sets, shows why they are a great investment. Some of these being my first Lego investments. Which is why I am keen on getting even more and more.

The most encouraging thing for me with the speed champions is the consistency of the return on investment, as long as you buy at discount you are comfortably going to see a very nice return.

Always check other sources though the BSR on amazon is a great indicator – if a set is wholly unpopular now, it will not do well at all on retirement, maybe that is what we are seeing with 76904.
