Lego technic 2023 investments which will make the most money.

Another Lego theme that is always a good investment is Lego technic. Lego technic are often very popular with adults and children, often collectable as well and normally unique. Making them ideal for Lego investing. For 2023 we are taking a look at the Lego technic investments that we hope will see the best return.

Focus on the ones retiring this year.

A big part of Lego investing is focusing on the cycle. There will be some on the market that have been out a while and are nearing retirement. Others that are new and thus less likely to retire meaning a longer hold and more time to see a decent return.

The best resource I find for the latest retiring information is brick fanatics. So check out their posts for the updated lists of which Lego sets in which themes will be leaving the market this year.

Which sets are due to retire at the end of 2023

What are we looking for to find the best investments

When looking for Lego investments, we want to look at a few different things to see which will do the best after retirement. We want to look at the ones with the best possible discounts, as getting them at much less than the retail price will make it easier to see the 100% return. Not all sets are reduced.

We also want to look at the popularity of the sets, if they are popular whilst on the market then they will still be once they have retired, the more scarce they become the higher the price.

Then also we can look at similar Lego sets that have retired in past years, which will give us a good indication of how these will perform.

One final thing to sometimes consider, is reviewing the keepa charts and seeing what happens with the price when Amazon is out of stock, is it still selling, does it sell for higher than the retail even whilst on the market

Which are my top 5 Lego technic investments for 2023

The vast majority of Lego technic sets I would say are very safe and comfortable investments, they are normally always very popular so well worth a look if get at a good discount. But there are some that I am really focused on.

42122 Jeep Wrangler – RRP £44.99 – Release date January 1, 2021

There are many reasons why this Lego set is a great investment, it is a good mid range set priced at £45. Has been on the market now for a couple of years so, has been out for some time, surely going to retire. But is still a hugely popular set based on Amazon BSR.

It is also a set that screams to me to be collectable, one that if people missed out whilst on the market they will want to snap up.

It has also been available at a good solid discount, been available around the £30 mark a number of times and for me that is the area that I want to be snapping this up.

I currently only have one of these but will be on the hunt for more in the future.

42123 McLaren Senna GTR – RRP £44.99 – Release date January 1, 2021

This set similar to the Jeep, has been out for a couple of years, one I have built myself and holds pride of joy in my room.

Has done well when gone out of stock, is even more popular than the Jeep.

Again it has been made available at a good discount. This is one that I hold a couple more of. Was able to pick these up for £30 each. A price point at a third off that I see to be very inviting. Perhaps will get for even more discount closer to retirement, as the shelves are being cleared.

42134 Monster Jam Megalodon – RRP £17.99 – Release date January 1, 2022 / 42135 Monster Jam El Toro Loco – RRP £17.99 – Release date January 1, 2022

Grouped these 2 sets together as they are well very similar same mid range price point and release date. 2 years is plenty long enough for these to be on the market. They are hugely popular sets. Well priced.

They can be picked up at really good discounted prices. Have been comfortably close to half price at the £10 price point and this would be my target for these sets. I am confident of it coming up at this level at some point.

Not sure how good an investment this is?, have a look at the similar sets. That were out the previous year 42118/42119. (well 42118 can still be bought on Lego.com but 42119 is retired but is already sitting at just under £30 just a few months after. Christmas time I expect this to be even more. I bought some of the sets at £9 each. Would aim for £9-10 again for the new sets and will comfortably be doubling our money.

42138 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 – RRP £44.99 – Release date January 1, 2022

This set all day long will be a great investment when it retires. Very popular set at present.

You would have to also say confident that this is going to a very collectable set in the aftermarket as well. It is a very popular collectable car. That in my humble opinion looks absolutely incredible. One set that would be a good comparison is the Chevrolet corvette that left the Lego world the end of 2021. Priced at £40 RRP. The set could have been picked up for less than £25. Sitting now at just under £70 that is a comfortable 100% return on investment.

I was very fortunate to pick the Mustang up at Sainsburys for just £20 each, think that was a bit of a glitch. But this set will go down to £30 I am sure and then will be a very inviting buy. My only slight reservation for this set this year is whether it will actually retire this year. With its popularity I could see it extending in to next year. So my advice as always would be if do pick up this set then diversify and don’t go all in/

Many of the Lego technic sets will be good investments and if they come out at the right price there will be plenty of others that will be taking a look at . But these are just my favourites. Lego discounts are an inevitably they will come you just need to be ready to snap them up. So make sure to follow me on twitter for the best Lego discounts.
