What are the best Lego Harry Potter investments in 2023?
After looking at the Lego Star Wars investment recently, I am now moving on to another similarly superb investment opportunity in the Harry Potter sets, for similar reasons they are popular with children and grown ups, huge collectability and popularity and always do well once the sets have been retired. So with that in mind, which Lego Harry Potter investments are going to do well this year?
Similarly to Star Wars sets as well there are a lot of them and some can be on the market for a long time, so although you would struggle to find sets that won’t do well, you can certainly maximize your investment. So I will be focusing on the sets that I think will get the highest return in the shortest time frame.
A reminder of the three things we are looking for Lego investing
- A good discount
- Popular and collectable sets
- A set ideally close to retirement for a quick turnaround

We then simply wait until the set retires, the more scarce it becomes the higher the price will go. Normally within a year of retirement we have looked at doubling the money on the investing.

The best Lego Harry Potter investments for 2023
Lego 75968 4 Privet Drive Release June 2020 RRP £69.99
This set has been out for some time now coming up to its 3rd year and is up for retirement at the end of the year, still this set is extremely popular and sought after, a cool unique set with 5 minifigures exclusive to this set. It also has been available at a good price as well. I managed to pick a couple of these up at £40 each which I was very happy with.
Lego 75979 Hedwig RRP £34.99 Release date 01/06/2020 –
Another set that has been out for up to 3 years. An almighty popular set this one, that many collectors will want, again it being out on the market for a while may mean it takes longer for the price to go up. But this set will surely do well. Skeptical about it actually retiring but at 3 years it is time. Well worth having a couple of these in the bag.
Again has been picked up at a great discount in the past, would be happy anywhere at £25, but have been fortunate enough to pick one up at half price. Ultimately if this set does retire it will fly (pun unashamedly intended).
76386 Polyjuice Potion Mistake. RRP £17.99 Release date 01/06/2021
This set is a year younger than the 2 above it, but is more popular by far. I have snapped up a couple of these sets when I have seen them at 20% off which is easily attainable. I see this one doing very well, it is cheap, easy to get to your price point, and with that golden Harry Potter figure, surely going to do extremely well. Once it becomes even more lucrative in time.
76398 Hospital Wing RRP £44.99 Release date 01/03/2022
This set has only been out a year coming out March 2022, but is on the retirement list for end of the year (subject to change. These castle sets have done well in the past so can see this one doing similar things as well. Ideally if I could get a third off this set I would be all over it.
76400 Harry Potter Carriage and Thestrals
This set is very popular at the moment. Very confident you will double your money within a year of retirement, again the best discount possible, but not often you get Harry Potter sets on the same level of discounts as others so anything around 20-25% off will be good when this leaves shelves.
76406 Hungarian Horntail Dragon
This is another set I think will do very well, a bit on the pricey side, I would like to get for £30 or under. Still very confident that it will do well once they stop production. Likely to be very popular with collectors more so than children wanting to play with it. But it looks very good.
A word of warning for quick flippers
It is worth saying that things can change, sets that we think are going to retire may be extended for another year or two, and that is particularly the case with Lego Harry Potter. I know because it was 2020 I bought the Harry Potter Hogwarts Express Train, and it has only just left the market. I am still confident I will make good money on this set. But tying up too much money in a couple of sets can really lift your Lego investment journey. So diversify those assets and do your own research based on what you want to achieve.
