Which Lego technic sets are retiring in 2022?
And which to invest in?
The end of the year is always an exciting one for Lego investing, for two main reasons, we begin to learn which sets are retiring at the end of the year, and as we will know from the rules of Lego investing this information is vitally important. Secondly, in the run-up to and after Christmas there are some excellent Lego discounts to snap up. Lego technic is always a popular theme that does well after retirement and is therefore a great opportunity.
Combining the retirement date and the great discounts gives us a good chance of doubling our money this time next year if we buy the right sets at the right price. So looking at the retirement list I have come up with the ones I am on the hunt for and at what price.
Which Lego technic sets are retiring in 2022
There are 9 Lego technic sets retiring in 2022, and I currently have a few of them, 2 of the Land rover defenders, a lot of the Lego rescue hovercraft which was on a great deal at Tesco at Easter time, and the heavy-duty excavator that was also available at a great discount at Tesco very recently.(This shows why loyalty cards are important in the Lego investing game)
It is likely that towards the end of the year now the sets will either go two ways be sold out and not be able to get your hands on or you will be able to find them discounted quite highly when it is leftover stock as well as also being on sale towards the end of their term.

Which of the Lego technic sets should you invest in?
42083 Bugatti Chiron Release date 01/06/2018 RRP £319.99
This set won’t be an investment for me – it has been out a very long time, and will no doubt do well in years to come, but too rich for my blood at the moment to old that much cash. Was often discounted at about £200 so would want it at that price
42090 Getaway Truck Release 12/2018 RRP £17.99
I think if bought at a good discount 30-40% off this would be a good price but to be honest this is not a set I see that much of around and may have already gone off the market so unlikely to be able to pick it up at a discount
42110 Land Rover Defender Release Oct 2021 RRP £179.99
This set has also been out for a long time and it screams collectable meaning it will go up in value after retirement, it is one of the bigger technic sets so bear that in mind for space, I bought 2 for under £100 last year and think anything under the £100 mark would be a good price for this
42114 6×6 Volvo Articulated Hauler Release august 2020 RRP £229.99
Another expensive set so with limited cash flow would pass on this myself at moment but would be confident in this doing well after retirement as well. These types of articulated sets always do well. Unlikely but if could pick it up for something around £150 would be a good price.
42116 Skid Steer Loader Release January 2021 RRP £8.99
This set is the other end of the spectrum a small set I only have a couple of these that picked up for £4.50 so half price, not the most popular set but if got this at half price again would definitely be on this one!
42119 Monster Jam Max-D Release January 2021 RRP £17.99
A very popular Lego set this one, is definitely worth snapping a few up. I have some 42118 a very similar set that able to get for half price. This one has not yet but have seen for 25-30% off which would be a good discount as well, so this will definitely be worth a look at getting some before they disappear off the shelves
42120 Rescue Hovercraft Release March 2021 RRP £24.99
I personally won’t be picking up any more of these as I have quite a few already which don’t think will get at a better price. I think this will definitely be available at a good price in the lead-up to retirement. Anything at a third off or more is a good price but if lucky we may get to 40-50%
42121 Heavy-Duty Excavator Release March 2021 RRP £34.99
Managed to get a number of these at Tesco last month for £21 which was very happy with this price, Am very confident of this set doing well and anything at £25 is a good solid buy. Construction sets always do well and this one is also very popular
42126 Ford F-150 Raptor Release October 2021 RRP £124.99
A very good set this one, likely very collectable as well in time, quite a pricey set, would want a decent discount for this one around £80 or something of this ilk if possible.
